Ordered sirloin, which was grilled over binchotan. Tasted decent, a bit overdone. The apple-pie was pretty good. Service staff was courteous and attentive. Perhaps they could present some details of the meat and the aging too, instead of busy about their tasks when the restaurant only with four guests for lunch.

Best steak of my life, amazing service and the friendliest chef and lady boss. The restaurant did not allow children (we are a big group of 7 adults and 3 kids), and they opened up in the afternoon just for us how crazy is that? so we had the whole restaurant to ourselves and the kids got free flow bread (which was freshly baked and amazing) and did not need to order too!

A wonderful experience. Lovely beef, and seafood options for the non-beef eater. Great wine by the glass. The service across the board was spectacular - Always attentive and always smiling. In the end a lovely lady escorted us to the curbside and hailed us a taxi in the rain.

Mind blowing. I feel like I let them down when I showed up dressed casually but they didn't mention it. Service was great, steak was perfectly cooked.

A must try for steak enthusiasts. Perfectly prepared amazing cuts of beef. And the takeaway steak sandwiches are probably the best I have eaten.Tiny little restaurant, downstairs from the street, hidden away.

I have had Wagyu beef before, but this is hands down the best steak I have ever had in my life! The rest of the food was really good as well, we had the Goose Liver Pate and the Crab Croquettes, both were super tasty. Shima is an amazing family-run restaurant and though the decoration and vibe are more of an old-school/classic kind of place, the people who are running it care tremendously about making sure that everything is just right. I will definitely come back!

My favourite wagyu steak restaurant in Tokyo! It’s not the easiest to find location but use google maps and look for the basement entry under Tully’s coffee. Worth the effort!Shima-san has international experience and it definitely shows. He is also quite friendly and speaks English well if you enjoy a chat. The food is amazing. Worth every yen. Do yourself a favour and grab a steak sandwich to go too! Best steak sandwich you’ll ever eat

Awesome steak had the sirloin and it was fantastic steak are dry aged and the beef melts in your mouth. Really good beef must try in Tokyo and also have the take away sandwich. Steaks are cook in a charcoal oven which is perfect and baked garlic right on top. Abit pricey considering but it’s in Tokyo so expect to pay abit more

Excellent steak sandwich. Best one I have ever had. Beats easily any US steak sandwich I previously tried (including Philly's). Beef was perfectly cooked and very high quality. Tomato-based sauce was great and not too invasive for the delicate taste of the beef. Bread was briosche-type and perfect for the type of sandwich. The box was neat and overall the presentation was impeccable. Not cheap though (25USD for a sandwich 75 for a box of three). We bought three boxes to eat in the park.

From 2016: My expectations were sky high. Let’s be clear, the steak was fantastic, crisp on the outside and tender inside. One of the best I’ve had. However, I find that it lacked a little of the rich taste that comes with wagyu.Plus, I’m convinced now that teppanyaki is the way to cook wagyu. Charcoal would be for aged American beef, to bring out that nutty flavour, but a clean metal hotplate lets wagyu shine, I’d argue.Chef Manabu Oshima obviously disagrees, as he tells me charcoal is the way for steaks, but I think there are better steaks in Tokyo rated lower than Shima.Still, the Americans who sat next to me at the bar the other night were all singing praises about the best steaks they had ever had. Must be five stars from them!

Had a nice piece of tenderloin in Shima. Service & food both superb. Advance booking is recommended. The black bread looks weird but indeed very tasty.

Casual and small steakhouse. Friendly service. English menu is available so it is useful for non-Japanese speaking diners. Good selection of items on the menu. The quality and the taste of the meat is excellent. The crab croquette is also not to be missed.

Incredible meal presented by warm and hospitable staff. We had a special raw beef appetizer that was incredible. Also, I’m convinced that all steaks should be covered in garlic chips from now on. Don’t sleep on the ink bread!!!

Amazing food, was a great last meal at Japan. Highly recommend if your looking to have a nice steak. The chefs appetizers were great if I must add. The portion is also more than enough.

I panned to go to Shima on my trip to Tokyo in July 18, we sat in front of the kitchen and watched head chief Shima cut up the various pieces of meat fresh from the fridge. It was great to watch the guys work! We had the fillet and the sirloin with some in season asparagus and bread rolls... we also had a lot of tasting dishes on the house as Shima himself was chatting to us all night!! Another dish not to be missed is the wagyu sashimi it was absolutely delicious and absolutely raw! it was a new experience for my friends and I and it did not disappoint. I Couldn’t recommend this place enough, it was a little pricey but worth the additional Yen, I will definitely go again on my next trip. Oh and I took away the steak sandwich and had it for lunch the following day... delicious!

One of the best steaks in existence! Chef and his family were so warm and friendly in having us. The atmosphere was brilliant and the food even better. He weighs the steak in front of you, so you know what you are getting. When it's served, it looks like you have entered steak heaven! Do give Shima a try when you are in Tokyo, but make sure to make reservations first!

A beef lover paradise, top notch cut of Japanese beef from all over Japan. Only the very beef at its prime are served here. All beef cooked in customized oven to ensure nice and even cooking temperature while retaining the moisture in the cut. Truly a restaurant or beef connoisseur. A well balanced wine list featuring nice selections to accompany your meal. Shima San and his family attended to their guests with warm and welcoming Japanese hospitality Book early!

Under Tully's Coffee.

Maybe they didn't ask cause they assumed you don't have a number in Japan - they are nice people, not one of those restaurants who are rather cold to people from abroad. Hope you enjoy thier superb stake!

It is a course that I ate. There are two types of courses. ¥ 20,000 or 25,000

No, they don't. One of the stuffs speaks English. You can make a reservation on the phone. Many non-Japanese speakers visit for meals by doing so by themselves.
